ONLINE COURSE: Color Basics for the Home--INTERIOR

Who this course is for

Architectural color is not a decorating specialty. It affects anyone who specifies, sells, occupies or works within a built space, and most of them are making color decisions without training.

Architects and designers

Architects, lighting designers and interior designers who specify color on every project and want to predict how it will read at full scale.

Contractors and investors.

Painting contractors and trades executing color decisions on site, and real estate agents advising buyers and sellers.

Therapists and counselors

Practitioners shaping their own consulting rooms, and coaching clients on the spaces they go home to.

Homeowners and homemakers

Anyone choosing color for their own home who wants to stop guessing from a paint chip.

And anyone who wants to understand and influence their environment more deeply and intentionally.

What you'll learn

The course teaches the Color in Space Method, a consistent methodology and standard for architectural color consultation that works in harmony with the principles of nature, feng shui and physics.

01

How light changes color

How light and color temperature, the illuminants in a space, transform the way a color appears on a surface in both interior and exterior architecture.

02

Building a cohesive 12-color palette

How to build a palette that guides paint, finishes, flooring, textiles and architectural details as one unified system rather than a set of separate decisions.

03

Architectural features and terminology

Interior and exterior architectural features and the language used to describe them, in the context of specifying color accurately.

04

The biophilic and energetic dimensions of color

How color supports wellbeing in a space, and why a room can feel calming or conflicting regardless of whether the individual colors are attractive.

05

Client-ready frameworks

Practical frameworks for color consultation and specification you can use with clients, so the method transfers to real projects rather than staying theory.

06

Why most people get paint color wrong

What the paint companies do not tell you, why the average homeowner is set up to fail when choosing colors, and how to use architectural color deliberately instead.

Included: a $150 value

The palettes arrive with the course

Every student receives the complete set of Color in Space Dwelling Palettes, eight palettes containing twelve 4×4 inch Benjamin Moore paint swatches each. Samples at a size your eyes can actually judge, rather than a chip the size of a postage stamp.

  • Complete Dwelling Palettes set. Eight palettes, twelve 4×4 inch swatches in each.

  • The Color in Space Method e-handbook. A full reference guide to everything covered in the training.

  • The complete course. Taught online and self-paced, so you work through it around your own schedule.

From past students

Comments from people who have taken a Color Basics for the Home course. Each one is credited to the course that person actually attended.

Emily is a master at color and how color is more than "just color." She teaches how it is literally energy that can be manipulated to make spaces not just look better, but feel better. The classes are interactive, un-intimidating and fun. And the community of people involved is a major plus, as it lives on beyond the timeframe of the course.

I enjoyed this course so much. This is a special dive into The Color in Space process, which is unique in the field of color consulting. The course goes through history and science and the energetics of light and color and then delves into the process of helping choose color palettes. I highly recommend this if your interested in color or interested in The Color in Space process.

The course is excellent! It is very-well organized with a thoughtful flow of content delivery in the form of written & video material. I especially enjoyed learning about the intersections with nature, feng shui & the chakras…a unique approach in color theory.
